no it is not true it is a rumour
and for game and watch he releases lions on the other characters

I have a theory that the people that are making Brawl have or will put a poll somewhere on the internet asking to say what your least favorite charcter was in SSBM and then using the results they'll get rid of the charcters that had the least amount of popularity in SSBM.
