Nintendo has just been holding a media summit this morning in San Francisco, at which they’ve been demoing some key games for the forthcoming year, as well as revealing lots of release dates. IGN has been live blogging the event, excitably relating possibly the most exciting news of the morning – that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released on May 23rd 2010! The lucky people in attendance were also treated to a demo of the game, and according to IGN’s man on the spot, the gameplay and controls look very similar to those of the first game. The IGN reporter describes how Mario rides around on Yoshi, and Yoshi sticks out his gigantic tongue and eats a fruit which turns him blue, enabling him to then soar through the air with Mario on his back. Good times! Turns out that the game also includes some traditional 2D platforming stages, no doubt influenced by the huge success of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
