Any Wii U owners who have been looking forward to playing the forthcoming, and very eagerly awaited, new Tomb Raider game will be very disappointed to learn that the game’s developer, Crystal Dynamics, has said that there will not be a Wii U version of the game. According to a report on The Verge, the new Tomb Raider’s creative director, Noah Hughes, recently did an interview with True Gaming, in which he said that the game was being designed to create the best possible gaming experience on PS3, Xbox and PC. Note the lack of any mention of the Wii U there. And it seems that judging by Hughes’ follow up comments on the matter, it’s mainly down to the fact that the Wii U asks the developer “to do something unique based on a unique interface,” that led to CD’s decision not to release the game on Wii U. The Verge quotes Hughes as saying that while he loves the Wii U’s touchscreen GamePad “as a gamer,” adapting his game to the unique features of the controller is “something you don’t want to do half-heartedly as a developer.” As The Verge notes, the Wii U intially had support from some of the finest current games on the planet at launch, with Assassin’s Creed 3 and Mass Effect 3, for example, but could other companies releasing big games also opt out in future when it comes to the Wii U? Should that be the case, Nintendo had better get a move on and release those new Zelda and Mario games pronto!
