Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, the man behind such games as Half Life: Opposing Force, Halo: Combat Evolved for PC, and Brothers in Arms, has been talking to The Verge about the Wii U, and he has some very exciting things to say about Nintendo’s forthcoming console. Gearbox is currently working on developing Aliens: Colonial Marines for all major consoles, including the Wii U, and Pitchford tells The Verge that from what he has seen of the Wii U version of the game, it will be the best of all the console versions.
“The Wii U version has so much more to offer,” Pitchford told The Verge. “No other platform can do what the Wii U can do. If you love [Xbox] 360 games, you are not used to being in a world where you have this new interface. But once you get used to that, you imagine the possibilities; there are some opportunities that are just not possible on any platform that does not have that device.”
Although Pitchford is of course not allowed to give much away about the Wii U, The Verge says that he hints that the Wii U’s touch screen controller is used as a motion tracker in the game, or in other ways that will be reminiscent of the technology used in James Cameron’s classic Aliens film. Pitchford goes on to say that the Wii U’s controller will be used to “make a very unique and compelling experience on that platform.”
