Hello everyone,

Searched through a number of threads and have seen different answers to my question. Im thinking that maybe the situation has changed over time.

So im wanting to back up my wii games. Can i buy an external hard drive and load them on to it then just play them off the hard drive?

If this is possible do i need a mod chip that ive read about?

Thanks for the help everyone!

No, that is not possible.

And do you really need backups? Have you ever had a game disc damaged?

At the moment the only way of backing up channels/saves/VC games is to transfer them to an SD card and then copy them onto a PC if you wish. Hopefully as more games feature online content Nintendo will issue a firmware update so that you can connect external hard drives. If this happens then you probably will be able to, but at the moment its SD only i'm afraid.

There are several methods to backing up your wii discs. BUT the only way to get them to play on the wii conlse is to insert a modchip. MODCHIPS ARE ILLEGAL. IT WILL VOID YOUR CONTRACT WARANTY WITH NINTENDO. BUYING OR SELLING MODCHIPS IS ILLEGAL.
