Namco Bandai announced today that ExerBeat for the Wii will be released on May 17. It’s a fitness game where the whole family can work out to the beat using the Wii Remote. There are a total of 155 exercises covering 8 categories of popular exercise routines including Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Aerobics, Karate, Karate Forms, Yoga/Pilates and Stretching. Players can enjoy each exercise by following easy-to-understand instructions as they move their body and Wii Remote to the rhythm, with the number of calories burned as well as METs displayed for each exercise. Players can also create a personal workout program instantly by selecting “problem areas” to work on, and setting the length of their workouts and workout goals.

There’s also a fun, competitive element added to the gameplay, with friends and family members encouraged to compete for the highest score per exercise, either by playing side-by-side, or by comparing leaderboard rankings.

Around the World mode adds an entirely different element to the fitness challenge, as your Mii travels around the world, powered by your workout prowess. There’s even a special set of kid-oriented exercises in Party Fitness mode so it really is for all the family and all ages.
