Dance games and fitness games continue to do the business on the Wii this side of the New Year, and we’re also seeing more and more hybrids of the two genres. Now Namco Bandai has announced its own variation on the theme, with ExerBeat, which features more than 150 fun fitness-oriented activities across a variety of categories including dance, martial arts, body conditioning, and party-type mini-games. ExerBeat also includes exercises which are compatible with the Wii Balance Board and Wii MotionPlus accessories.

The activities in the game are designed to encourage a healthy, ongoing fitness routine, complete with an in-game personal trainer to help you customise workout programs based on your personal goals, while daily and weekly challenges help keep you motivated to achieve accomplishments on a regular basis.

As an added incentive, an Around the World mode, featuring your Mii, converts players’ workout results into the equivalent distance walked across the globe, providing a tangible, visual representation of all the hard work you’re putting in. Your Mii will stop at the locations you reach, with over 100 possible international destinations for your Mii to visit. At each landmark, new exercises and modes are unlocked and interesting facts about the local culture are revealed. You can even compete to travel further around the globe with friends and family.

Look for ExerBeat to be released for Wii sometime this Spring. I like the look of it – its got that unique Namco Bandai feel about it that sets it aside from the other fitness games.
