Game Region Codes?

Hi,

I'm a little confused on this region code stuff.
I know Wii games have the PAL / NTSC region code, but do they also have the numbered region code like DVDs? eg) Australia DVDs are PAL 4.

I'm wanting to send a PAL game to a friend in Italy from Australia so wanted to make sure it'd work first.
