Help on Skylanders please - can't pick up mega clam 4000 bomb? - bug or me?

Hi, In the hub world, in the ruins, the big robot (mega clam 4000) has produced a bomb for me to take to the cave entrance to open it, but no matter what I do, every time I go to pick the bomb up, my skylander takes it and then automatically throws it so it explodes before the countdown.
No matter what I do I can't stop it throwing the bomb before I can race to the cave. Really frustrated. Can anyone tell me what we are doing wrong here, we can pick up other things (like the oil can) no problems. Is this a bug or is it me?
Any help, tips welcome.

Turn the remote around to face the opposite way. Then try it.

or just reconnect it at the home screen that sometimes happens to my nunchuck it just moves my character to the oppisite side of where im walking
