Uhh is there by any chance a cheat that gives you specials? This kid I was fighting was getting super luigi like every 5 seconds....

Ye that will help.

Some characters get there specials more frequent than others. Not sure but thats how it seems.

There is a cheat that will give you the only special items but that means you would have been playing a friend. Because you cant use cheats against a ladder guy

Depending on your Style you get your special differently

Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Any other Balanced characters get it if you smack them, So try to slide.
