Nintendo is sending a message to all the pirates - pirate our games and we'll hunt you down. That's more than just talk, by the way. A man in Australia now owes the the company AU$ 1.5 million (US$ 1.3 million) after being found to be the first to upload New Super Mario Bros. Wii into the internet.
Making use of "sophisticated technological forensics", Nintendo was able to track and identify the guy responsible for copying the file and making it available for illicit distribution. "On 23 November, 2009, Nintendo obtained a Federal Court search order in respect of the individual's residential premises. This led to the seizure of property from those premises in order to gain further evidence against the individual." said a Nintendo press release.
