Nintendo has today released lots of spooky details about the forthcoming Wii edition of Project Zero 2, which it will be releasing on June 29 in Europe, in partnership with Tecmo Koei Games. The Wii-exclusive relaunched version of the game includes all-new motion gameplay features, and innovative new two-player modes. The classic remake sees you take on the role of Mio as she explores a mysterious cursed village with her twin sister Mayu. When Mayu follows a Crimson Butterfuly into the woods, Mio has to follow her. Eventually the two girls stumble across an apparently abandoned village. From then on, it’s up to you to try and help the girls to uncover the secrets of an ancient ritual in order to escape the eternal darkness of the sinister village.

As Mayu and Mio explore the village, they are attacked by the ghosts of the former inhabitants, who can only be defeated using the Camera Obscura, a mythical weapon that lets you interact with the spirit world. Whenever a ghost draws near, an indicator at the top of the screen will show how close it is to you, with red indicating an evil spirit, and blue showing that the spirit is good or non-offensive. If you manage to get your shot just right, timing it so that the Camera Obscura viewfinder becomes red, you will earn a bonus and be able to inflict more damage. You can also gain more bonus points for taking multiple ghosts with the same shot. Different types of film are also hidden around the village that will increase the level of damage inflicted by the Camera Obscura, and special powers are also available if you modify the lens, including combos, such as the Fatal Frame combo, which lets you link multiple pictures together in rapid succession and deal a large amount of damage. Your Wii Remote acts as your flashlight in the game, which you use to explore every inch of the environment, with the motion controls really enhancing the feeling that you are stuck in a spooky house.

And talking of spooky houses, the Haunted House mode is another new edition, a test of courage that aims to scare you at every turn. The action is on rails, just like an amusement park ride, as you use your Wii Remote and Nunchuk to move forward and look around your environment with the flashlight. At every corner, you’ll be surprise with ever more scary situations, so be prepared! A second player can also join in and play against you, controlling when the ghosts appear and also what sounds are emitted by the Wii Remote speaker.

Well it all sounds pretty fantastic, doesn’t it? Love the fact that Nintendo is still prepared to release something a little different for Wii, especially an all-new version of a game that has already been a hit on other consoles.
