problems with headbanger

I'm on my second headset in as many day, It is kind of intermittent sounding and after the match I hear people pretty good. I dont think they hear me. when I mute the headset my icon on tv goes green and my mic light goes out,when I dont have it muted my tv icon is white and my mic piece is red. Sound right??

un-mute your mic you can tell if your mic is muted
if the speaker piece tip that goes next to your mouth has a red light

if its off that means its un-muted and you can speak with others online on black ops

When i play conduit 2 the headset says its working but on the tv screne a white muted sign comes up and i cant hear or talk to any1
