August 29, 2007 - SEGA recently released an intriguing new lifestyle 'game' for the Nintendo DS in Japan, called Heart Scan, which makes use of the handheld's microphone to analyse peoples' voices for a range of feelings - calm, jittery happy, disappointed, angry.

SEGA spokesman Yasushi Nagumo said the game could do things like get the truth from lovers insisting their passion, interrogate potential liars, and test the level of intrigue from employees who claim to care about their work.

As the game says, "The speaker more or less likes you," or "The speaker is agitated," and those messages are complemented by numbers, drawings and charts. Lists of words, like "rendezvous, extramarital affair, living together, divorce, marriage," are thrown at players, and the game's able to determine which ones make them the most nervous, like a lie-detector test.

It's more capable than just discovering a nervous voice, though. 'Sensibility technology', developed by Advanced Generation Interface Japan Inc. and SGI Japan is employed, and it was created to monitor the moods of workers who answer phones and those who make complaint calls. Voice samples were collected and analysed for parameters, each representing a certain emotion, judged by their tone rather than their volume.

Currently no plans have been made for a release outside of the Land of the Rising Sun.
