In Taiwan, 80% of the Wii's are sold with modchips. Nintendo is running scared.

Same thing happened to PSP's, Sony scrapped everything already in the production lines to make a new revision of the motherboard in order prevent the downgrader working.

They can do that with firmware. Modchips are illegal in the US, UK, and canada where i think mostly everyone here is from. Modding ia for noobs. -_- Still thats cool, nintendo and other gaming companies have bin attacking piracy hard latly, which i like. Modders deserve to die.

Street price in Taiwan for a modded Wii is about $300 - $350 with the Wii Key modchip.

Modchips aren't illegal. If you are using them to play illegal games then they are but just having a modchip to play backups isn't illegal in the US.

I wouldn't say this is the "one" reason, but one of a few, Main reason I know of was it was nearing the end if the Fiscal year for nintendo, that's all
