Twilight Hack/Homebrew?

So I get it but I don't. Is it good? Or does it just mess up your Wii? What sort of stuff can you do with it? Is it legal and I read somewhere that you can't go online such as mario kart, or brawl but does this affect the internet channel because Nintendo will trace it and brick your wii?
