I'm planning on replacing 300 and Blade Runner Final Cut HD-D with BD versions as soon as I decide on the BD player (might be a PS3, seems like a decent mid-range, plus of course, there's some kind of game machine tossed in there :D )

It's better, I don't think that's up for debate - now the specific equipment, movie, person watching might introduce_some_ variance - the BIG difference is whether it's *important* to you and your movie watching experience. We're huge movie enthusiasts, so we like the best experience possible, and without question, that's HDM (whether it's HD-D or BD).
