Hi

My friend has a HDD hanging off his router (via Cat 5) and as his PS3 has WiFi capability it has the ability to detect the HDD. Does anyone know if the Wii has this capability? I am after storing all my DVDs on the HDD and then hopefully access them via the Wii.
Many thanks

It depends what you mean by the HDD hanging off the router. My router has ethernet connectors so your mate must have a 'box' that has an ethernet cable connecting it to the router. If so, the 'box' may well be a simple Linux based nas drive. It will have its own IP address in which case you can use SMB on the Wii to access the drive.
An alternative is to attach a USB drive directly to the Wii. I use both methods, two servers with disks attached to the router and a USB drive attached directly to the Wii. I can FTP across them to transfer files as I use my Wii as a media player as well as a games machine.
