did Nintendo have the Wii-Mote technology way back when they developed Duck Hunt?

how does DuckHunt work?..is the gun just like a wii-mote..please explain

The original Duck Hunt game didn't have motion sensing. It was just a light gun, like in the arcades.

this seems to be a trend of threads now, id just like to remind people that most light gun games were rail shooters and limited gameplay and depth, also tend to get old if you cant walk and explore

That Duck Hunt technology amazes me it's obvious how the Wii does it and it doesn't seem to be abnormal at the arcade but to just get a plastic gun and nothing else and all of a sudden it works with your TV... magic!!!

Actually when you shoot the light gun, it “blacks out” your screen for a fraction of second (hardly visible to the player) with a few white parts only emitting light. The light gun has a light sensor that can tell which part of the screen it is pointed at based on the location of these white parts.
The “Super Scope from super NES woks a different way (check the link !)

The Wii uses another system for screen pointing, based on IR (making it obvious how it works).

The reason why they changed technology for the Wii was because you cannot follow the pointer with the light gun system, and the super scope system works only with CRT (old-type) TV screens.
