If I am more than 8' away from the tv the hand on the screen shakes really bad.

My hand is not shaking, but if I rest the wiimote on a solid object it stops the hand shaking.

Is this normal?

I think the lack of steady wiimote cursor is because the ir bar is not strong enough. At certain times of the day when sunlight graces my living room, my wiimotes have to be further away or they freak out half the time (happens too often while playing BWii--which can make or break a match).

I've seen others suggest that by taking the little black clear covers off of the ir bar, that the lights are sensed easier by the wiimote and result in less problems.

Its all about where you are when your playing I believe.
Stand closer, or further depending on what your doing now.

Also, I thought there was going to be Wii Milkshakes :(

Try adjusting the sensitivity setting for the sensor bar to see if another setting will help.
