Wiichat safety ideas

I find it funny that vagrant and I agree on this even though we are constantly fighting in the main forum.
The two people most against this contribute little to the Wii section of the site. Yes Im talking about you GymDawg and Kiwi who spend all your time in the Lounge or Off Topic or Pokemon.

1. It doesn't matter if it doesn't affect me when it's the wrong thing to do. That's like you saying world hunger isn't a problem because you live next to a McDonald's.
2. Th PM system isn't used near as much as the thread creation system; seriously.
3. Nothing, which is exactly why your "solutions" won't work.
4. We're talking about threads so this point isn't really a point at all...
1. If its the wrong thing to do then why has new thread creation limits been supported on vbulletin since well,,, forever?
2. Exactly my point. The PM function is restricted to prevent a flood of simple questions and flooding - exactly what the limit I propose would do!
3. Do you realize the effort it would take to create 20 email accounts, register 20 names on wiichat, activate those 20 accounts, log in to one, post a message, log out, login with a second, post a message ......
4. You said that the limit would make users post off topic replies causing more work for the moderators. Off topic replies are less disruptive than an equal number of crap threads.

Alright Im going to eat now so I guess by the time I come back this thread will be locked or deleted.

I'm watching Transformers(new movie) on my computer while playing the game at the same time on my wii.

Blowin my mind.

Make new users give a phone number to the moderators in the join application, then have a mod call them up with a standard questionaire such as why they are joining and how they intend to include Wiichat into their daily routine. Could work.

Horrible idea..

Having a mod go out of their way just to call someone and give them a questionaire? I'm sorry but that's never going to happen. Also it would be a complete waste of time.

As I have said before these threads aren't really necessary considering every time a member like "Rotlin" or "Ginger" joins and spams the forum these threads tend to pop up. However the Rotlin incident was dealt with right away along with the Ginger incident. I also believe the forum rules we have set right now are fine.

How dare you make a sensible comment!! I was thinking the same as I read through this.

Maybe the autoconfirm e-mail should include a copy of the rules and you are forced to read them and agree to them before you can activate your membership?

I'm pretty sure most people or atleast some of them would ignore the rules by just scrolling to the bottom of the email and clicking on "agree". Its a good idea but I don't think it would work. However I could be wrong.

You are exactly right because some of the sites I sign up to make you do tht but I just scroll down
:)
and anyway the rules wouldnt make them change the way they do things

Probably not in the majority of cases, but I'd rather try a non-confrontational solution first, than some of the more aggressive ideas that have been thrown around recently. When I joined, the rules were not obviously displayed.... I know where they are now! But this isn't my first or only forum so I have always had an idea on how to behave. Some don't know so it would help them, some don't care so it would make no difference.

Maybe the addition of a rules button next to the FAQ's ^ ^ ^ would help?

One thing that has worked on other forums in the past is to limit the use of the img tag. You can make it so that the img tag does not work for the first xx posts.

It does not eliminate the problem, nothing ever will, but it helps to reduce the frequency that this happens. To be fair, I have not seen that as being a common problem here. Most of this seems to be a knee-jerk reaction to one incident.

That's pretty much what it is. A few bad apples come in and they want to create all these restrictions for everyone. Oh noez, someone posted porn, but y'all seem to think that everything with breasts on it is porn. You should be thanking that guy for actually giving you a reason to complain; that seems to be a collective hobby around these boards.

However, he's gone. Problem solved. Get on with your lives.
