i think the technical term is gun cradle.

Here. Look at the bottom of the gun where the Nunchuk "would" slide in. It is flat and round.

Now look at this picture where the nunchuck is completely different shape.

The analog stick on the gun is part of it. The Nunchuk doesnt slide in.

With this gun style though, as you said the chuk doesn't fit. Also though, if you put it in the gun mode, the way I'm looking at it, you wouldn't be able to get at the buttons on top of the chuk either.

also, for anyone who isn't convinced, look in the top picture, the analog stick sticks up above the surface of the gun, where the nunchuck's is flush against the surface
