sakuri himself said that there would be no vc or dlc in his interview with matt casamassina

This is a very typical mentality from a Nintendo employee. They will probably stick to that mentality for the entire life span of the Wii. In many ways it makes the games original, fun, and friendly. The downside is it isn't always what the fans want, lacks repetition, and lacks heavy competition.

Then again if you chose a Wii for trash talking players, with no life leader boards, this isn't the console for you.

The lack of leader boards and voice chat are exactly what i expected when brawl was announced.

I knew with them owning the majority of the "children" demographic that safety and anonymity would be amongst chief concerns when playing online.

That being said also the fact that they wanted to try and make this as user friendly for the new guys as possible, having the one millionth spot in the world ranking when you've beaten several local toureys can be a bit disheartening.
As well as the fact that if you're a 12 year old playing online and the guy on the other end of the battle starts making lewd or insulting comments...yeah soccer moms across the globe would want sakurai's and Nintendo's collective heads.

I think that its rather stupid to think they would over dramatize the whole "internet is unsafe" thing with the wii, but then you think about the "kid-friendly" image ninty has done so well painting for themselves, that would be a shame to tarnish. (not being sarcastic) No need to damage their niche in the gaming industry over one title.

I wonder is anyone planning on hosting a team speak server for brawl once it comes out?

Aww man... I was really hoping for Roy and Mewtwo as DLCharacters.
But the full roster is still fine by me, so it's not a HUGE loss.

if you really want voice chat simply configure a simple Skype setup and you'll be golden

sakuri said it himself

as if we needed more characters, stages, or music anyway.

c'mon people, be happy!

we are happy.. most of us lol but too much is always better than too little

Well thats not surprising to me, at least the voice chat isn't.
No DLC is quite the disappointment but oh well, I'll live.
