Has anybody experienced Blue-ray or HD DVD?

I have, my friend of a friend has Casino Royale on Blue-ray, He got a PS3 instead of a Blue-ray player.

My eyes was bleeding after watch it!!! (kidding)

Everyone's touting BluRay and HDDVD but I have yet to see an in store display with a side by side comparison of regular DVD and the HD movie formats. Even with the online comparisons, I really have to look closely at the screenshots which defeats the purpose. For those who have either format, is it worth the expense to then splurge on 1080p TV?

I think it's pretty much questionable whether either HD DVD or Blu Ray will win. DVD is relatively cheap nowadays, and DVD up-scalers are on the rise. Also couple with the fact that DVD is still the mainstream and relatively cheap today, I don't think this format war will be as diverse as previous format wars. I think you'd need a large TV (like a 36" or a 40") to really appreciate the HD. I'm kinda wondering, since sitting too close to the TV is meant to be bad for your eyes, what do HDTV's do to one's eyes? Is it safer? Less safe? Just as safe?

What do you mean "appreciate" the friend of a friend has a HDTV and its 30". I'm getting a 19" HD for my bedroom

Appreciate as in to get the full effect of.

A SD signal into a smaller HDTV won't look as bad as a SD signal into a large one.

To get the full affect all you have to have is HDTV it doesn't matter on the size. :nono:

By the same token, if a HDTV can go up to whatever size before pixelating and blocking and stuff, doesn't that mean that to get the full effect, you'd want the biggest size you can get before it starts to do those things? Anything smaller would technically not be utlizing HD as much as anything larger. That's what I meant anyway..
