when i go online i see a message symbol next to the EA icon what does it mean and what do i do

the EA symbol just means its a ranked game, which means it tracks your Kills, Deaths and Score. if there is no EA symbol there it means it is unranked which mean nothing will be tracked.

if it looks like a padlock, it means the server is password protected.

no not in the lobby what does the message symbol mean in the main screen just after you login

it means that you've been sent a message

press 2 and scroll down to see who sent you the notification, then press a to read.
