Some work good for doubles but mostly everyone uses Smogon pokemon in all formats

I reckon that's an immense mistake, 'specially since Smogon's VGC crowd has grown exponentially every year... and as a result, they finally acknowledge Doubles as a legitimate competitive format ('bout bloody time). You're only robbing yourself of damage calcs, statistics and expert advice by kickin' the world's largest competitive Pokemon community t' the curb.

Altaria makes for a great partner in doubles. It can draw in enemys and be a target to soak hits while others bash your opponent and/or it is a fantastic doubles "cleric" and all purpose wall. Altaria is the way to go, definately.

If Altaria is ever more useful than 'Mence on a Doubles OU/VGC team, I'll eat a Magikarp.

I think Dirge's stubborness can be summed up in the last line of the first part of his post, and i quote,

"'fore you can handle a rod like we can."
