Puzzle Kingdoms

I have begun playing Puzzle Kingdoms, but don't seem to be able to equip my spells/relics? According to other blogs turned up by google, you go to your "Empire" screen, select the leader you wish to customize, and select the empty spell/relic slots to equip them. I try following his procedure, but I can't seem to get it to work on the Wii?

Figured it out

:yesnod: After another 24 hours of trial and error, I figured it out. You must configure via selecting a "kingdom" first. Via that avenue, you can then go in and customize your leaders and stuff.

Wasn't intuitive at all, but I got through it.
