Dear all,

Will a NTSC (American) Wii work in PAL country (Asia)?

My TV says it is "Video Playback: NTSC, PAL" so will it work?

Thank you very much!!

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm a total newbie.

I just moved from California to Beijing.

I saw the Japanese Wii in Beijing for $300 USD with modchip.

I'm not sure what to do. I don't like modded stuff.

Might Nintendo somehow lock out modded Wii's in the future like what happen to modded iPhones?

Thanks!

Why would you want NTSC, PAL gets good games earlier.

lol? I think you've mixed them up, America and Japan = NTSC. The only good game we got first was Mario Strikers Charged. As per the original posters question I think you should be fine. You do realise that you will have to import all your games from a NTSC region though as the Wii itself is region locked.

I generally recommend against modded consoles. You should be fine if you only play games from the consoles region in your modded console. Nintendo can brick you though if you're updating a game from another region. Or so I've heard.

I was thinking about this as well before I bought my current wii.

Because the release dates in the US are so much better. I think you will need a few cables to convert the signal from youre ntsc wii to your pal tv

As for the question about "wiil it work" it will
Most modern tvs can handle NTSC signals

So far I dont think the big N have done anything to stop modded wiis working (Mircosoft have you cant play a modded 360 online)
I was gonna get mine modded just so I can import (thats what it was intended for)

You will need to get a new power adaptor for their plugs, but it should be fine. You will also need to get a modchip if you want to play games from countries other than the USA.

Also, it is possible that Nintendo will in the future be able to lock out modded Wii's, but so far they have absolutely no power over them.

So is it possible to play UK PAL games on an Australian PAL wii or are the games different regions?
