donkey kong is frustrating me.

hi there everyone newbie here, i've recently bought a nintendo wii, and loving it. i have also recently purchased donkey kong country returtns and absolutely love that. but one thing is frustrating me and its on the very first level. when you jump up to get the letter k then keep jumping back to the left to get the puzzle piece in the tree for some unknown reason DK wont jump that far. i keep my finger on the number 2 button so he jumps futhere but to no avail. i must have tried over 100 times to jump that gap and it still doesn't reach. could someone please help me and tell me where i'm going wrong!!!maqny thanks

Have you tried rolling off the ledge and jumping while you're in the air during the roll? Helps you jump farther.
