IGN reports today that The Last Story, the next big Japanese RPG for Wii, has just gone gold. Director Hironobu Sakaguchi made the announcement via his Twitter page. The game is due to be released in Japan on January 27, and according to IGN, Nintendo has gone all out in terms of promoting the game, even broadcasting live Sakaguchi’s press demo event, which you can view here . Unless you speak Japanese you won’t understand what he’s saying of course, but persevere and you’ll get to view actual footage from the game. Apparently the demo also shows how you can strip characters down to their undies, as well as a demonstration of a hilarious-sounding banana peel-shooting accessory for lead character Elza’s bow gun that can be used to make people fall over in comical fashion!

If you’re living anywhere outside of Japan and like the look of The Last Story, get ready to be patient, as IGN says that Nintendo is yet to announce a release date for the game outside of Japan.
