A friend of mine just recently purchase a Wii in the USA.

He is concerned about not being able to use a modchip, because of new version of motherboard.

How much is this true? Could someone please update me on this subject??

His Wii serial is LU 52810960 5.

    THANKS!!

    And Merry XMAS everyone!!!

well is the chip already in his wii? if it is already in his wii, updating the wii firmware via the online could "brick" his wii, making it impossible to do anything.

No. You didnt get it, or maybe I didnt made it clear.
He JUST bought his Wii, and wants to install a Modchip. The problem is we read in a few articles that Nintendo would change the motherboard so modchips wouldnt work anymore.
Since I have an "old" Wii, i dont know wheter this is true because I dont follow Wii related news anymore.

So, if he purchase a WiiKey or Cyclowiz, would it be installable on his recently purchased in the USA area Wii??

Only chip that will work is D2CKey since he has the D2C drive controller.
