Needing advice on Sonic and the secret rings pleas

Wonder if anybody can help me, as this is driving me up the wall!!

Ive just bought Sonic and the secret rings and ive completed the first task of getting the 50 rings in 24 seconds.. It said mission completed.

It then takes me to the board that says Paragraph 1, with 'New' paragraph 2 underneath, but when I press the cursor buttons to go into paragraph 2, it jumps to the field below paragraph 2 to where the ?????? are !?? Its not driving me up the wall, been trying to solve this puzzle for last 2 hours!

Can anybody put me out my misery.. am I meant to be something else apart from picking up the 50 rings in paragraph 1? I can see this is going to be a long night lol..

You got it right. You are supposed to go to "Paragraph 2". Not sure why the cursor is jumping to the ????????. Maybe a problem with the controller d-pad being really sensitive and jumping 2 spaces as opposed to 1.

Try syncing up another remote and see what it does. If that works, you may have a Wiimote problem. Replace batteries, resync em all, restart Wii, etc etc.
