Networking - Best LAN connection possible

I'm streaming content from my pc to my Wii via Orb and want to get the fastest connection possible. This connection is over my home LAN (not restricted by my Internet Cable modem speeds). I've read on other forums that the Wii wireless connection only supports up to 54Mbps connection and the USB LAN adapter can achieve a maximum 100Mbps wired connection. Can anyone confirm?

Do I get any any benefit moving to a faster Wireless router (300Mbps) to get a faster wireless connection or a 1Gbps router for a faster wired connection?

Any advice would be appreciated.
