Shouldn't Mario Tennis 64 be 480P? Did the 480 fix globally force 480i?

I play Mario Tennis 64 alot on the Wii. I recently bought Samuri Shodown IIII and I would get a invalid format on my NTSC TV(using Monster component cables). So I did the Numchuck fix where you do "Press the Z + A + 2 Button simultaneousl"and it fixed it. But going back to Mario Tennis 64 I notice the output is 480i. Shouldn't the output be 480p?
