Stuck in Zora cave [red fish]

I know i need a red fish from this cave. I also know where they are. I already have the coral earrings. They do hook on. My question is how do i get them, they always escape!

Once you catch the red fish, change into Wolf Link and smell the fish to get the scent.

oo no its not that. Its that i can't wind my rod in without it escapeing

when it bites(you see the bobble go down) just lift the wii-mote up quickly and hold it there in a verticle position.
