    So last night i saved the game after getting a star i had 37 lives, start it up today and i got 4 lives anyone else experiencing this.

    yeah - it doesnt save your lives, you start on 4 each time. I lost about 50 lives after playing all day one day last week. Still, i'm onto star 112 now so i'm nearly finished!

    that's stupid...it should save your lives also

    Yeah, I was annoyed by that too since I was used to Mario Sunshine where it did save the number of lives.

    It's been like that since the original i think even the DS version is like that. Chock it up to a problem with an early 3D game. You guys know you can get a 1up right at the start in a tree near the waterfall outside of the castle.(although not so in the DS one)

    I don't think it's really a big problem. If you die it's not like you gain anything significant from having more lives apart from avoiding the Game Over screen and the walk back up to the course entrance.
