Ubisoft announced today that it’s bringing the Smurfs to the Wii this summer, with a game based on the live-action/CG-animation hybrid film due out this summer. The Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation 3D family comedy centres around the adventures of the tiny blue Smurfs who are cruelly chased out of their village by the evil wizard Gargamel, causing them to fall out of their own magical world and into ours, landing right in the middle of Central Park, New York City. Stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must try and find their way home before Gargamel manages to track them down. Here’s Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing at Ubisoft, talking about the game:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Lafig Belgium and Sony Pictures on the Smurfs license. Our ongoing partnership with Sony Pictures Consumer Products allows us to create fun and entertaining video games based on some of the most popular family films. Ubisoft’s creative team is working hard on crafting the perfect video game experience that will appeal to new and old fans of The Smurfs.”

Clearly The Smurfs are enjoying a bit of a gaming resurgence at the moment, as the recent Capcom iPhone game, The Smurfs Village, also based on the forthcoming movie, has already proved to be a huge hit.
