What is a HUD?

i probably sound stupid asking but i dont know what a HUD is. I was at a party and my friend was going to go in his sister's room and borrow her HUD i just played along about knowing what he was talking about. Could someone explain to me what it is?

it stands for heads up display. In a video game, they are the overlay elements such as life bars, weapon indicator, maybe a mini map...depends on the game. Your friend talking about "borrowing a HUD" doesnt make sense, unless hes talking about maybe a real life HUD such as one in a car

no idea. the only thing i know about when referring to HUD is a certain display of information, not something tangible that can be borrowed as you say your friend did.

maybe he meant harddrive? like, perhaps he was speaking phonetically in reference to HD (hard drive). your friends a whacko.
