WiiConnect24, W/Lan adapter

okay, heres my question..

i just got the LAN adapter after messing around w/a router and deciding to return it and go wired. the problem is i cant leave a 50ft ethernet cord running through my house 24/7.. so when ppl from my future friends list (assuming i ahve friends lol) send me messages and w/e will i still get them after plugging the ethernet cord in and starting it up, or will they just not show up?
