ok so i have a wireless router and i was just wondering if the wii would pick up the signal without any thing extra. just plug it in and it will work?

Correct.
Make sure you know how to get to your router's config (on a Belkin you browse to 192.168.2.1) - you may need to change it's channel to 1 or 11, set it to use mixed mode 802.11b and g, and set up some security (WEP or WPA).

Just use your Wii to search for an access point >> connect to that access point and you are good to go. Goodluck.
