I took the wrist strap off because it kept slapping against my hand, I never use it anyway

We always wear ours but sometimes forget at first. It's like putting on a seatbelt... Awkward at first but then natural.

I never had to put it on, the strap was already there, I just never really looked at it. Don't jump to conclusions my friend, you might get yourself into a bad situation!
