Fighter, the death of a genre?

Well, besides boxing games, how do games like Soul Caliber and 2d fighters do good on a console like Wii?!

I see no problem with fighting games, tough I doubt that using the wiimote would work, but the classic controller is perfect for fighters.
After the SNES I really have'nt enjoyed any fighters so seeing an old Mortal Kombat would be cool.
