whatsagoodname: Sweet. Write down or save into notepad the line that says "physical address" as you will need it later for the router.

My god the Wii owns: That doesnt mean we can assume. Different providers do things differently and sometimes the long time customers have different configuration than the normal user on the same provider.

I know someone that had DSL for 7 years straight. At the time the only choice they had was a static IP.

All you need to do is as I stated eariler go get the modem and hook it up.

The mac address won't match and he won't be able to obtain a DHCP lease.

Buy the router! If you want something cheap and stable I'd try to get a used WRT54G version 1 through 4
