how to save the game

Hello, I was wondering if somebody can help!
I was playing Alien Syndrome, and in the middle I wanted to quit the game and save it, but couldn't! The window popped up with a "save game" line on it but you could not click it. I had to start from the beginning again!
Can anyone please tell me how to save a WII game?

i think in alien syndrome you must find a check point, its a little glowing platform that enables you to save and do other things to your character. if you try to save while not standing on a check point then it will be grey and you cant click on it.
