Microsoft to take a stab at "Casual Gamers"

heh

that's a really funny statement from M$.

to get at the "casual" gamer.

ffs, the likes of lost planet and GoW are aimed at the "casual" gamer.

infact, any game that can be completed in less than 8 hours could be
considered a game for a "casual" gamer.
anyone who considers gears of war a casual game is a "stupid" gamer.

go learn what casual means.

hmm..struck a nerve here haven't i?

me stupid? i think not my friend.

how can you not consider GoW to be casual? the main "campaign" mode
is short, and the online multiplayer is great for an hour or so at a time, ditto
lost planet.

that would be a definition of "casual" would it not?

a game like oblivion on the other hand would be considered a "hardcore" game
aimed at people who like more than a 10 minute blast.

cynical i might be...stupid i am not.

not really, theres no nerve to strike, i dont work for Epic or any of them
and obviously you dont know much if you think online is only good for a hour, you should consider the number of people who have the Seriously... achievement, which is to get 10,000 kills.
or, how its been the top played xbox live game for months since its release, still "only fun for a hour"
this, my 37 year old friend who goes on a wii forum, is why i called you a stupid gamer.

well guys, it looks like we'll have to beg to differ.

oddly enough, the Wii forum isn't the only forum i frequent. it does however
seem to have the most "protective" forumites i have come across.

i made a statement, which was (and still is) my opinion. for that i get
flippant remarks, not quite flaming, but almost, aimed back at me because
i question the business decision of the worlds richest company.
a lot of people i know specifically bought a 360 to play GoW, when up until then,
the last consoles they had bought were SNES, MegaDrive or PS1's.....that's what
i would class as casual.

as for affiliation to companies (sovieto, from your "epic" remark) i ought to
have more than probably either of you. i'm currently an MCP, who is working
through MCSA an (hopefully) onto MCSE. look up the abreviations to see
what i'm referring to.

as for schools being better than 27 years ago (flood502) you're probably
right...they're bound to be better equipped. all we had were BBC and amstrads "computers".

oh, by the way...windows 3.x isn't an OS, it's a GUI for DOS.

as for the MAC? i'm no fan, never touched one tbh, and unless i get into
graphics or dtp then i doubt i ever will.

you don't take kindly to patronisation? i don't take kindly to childish flippant
"whatever" nonsense...i see enough of that every day on tv thank you.

anyway, as i said, we'll have to beg to differ on this one.

you work for mircrosft?

a job indians should be doing??

lol, no.

i don't work for M$ and i don't sit at a computer helping people (unless
you consider answering questions on a forum the same thing). no, what
i'm doing is studying the MCSE2003 course, well when i can fit it in between
work/wife/kids.

anyway, i'm glad this didn't turn into another tiresome slanging match
between anonymous people sitting behind their respective pc's.

can we all be friends now?:yesnod:

flood,

no disrespect, but you make far too many assumptions.
in your initial reply you assumed that i spend 8 hours a day "playing" video games, i had no life, and must have bad eyesight.
those assumptions couldn't be further from the truth.

as for me? i never assumed you were a 10 year old cider drinking chav.

as for musical taste? i too prefer guitar orientated music.
you'll see how old i am when i say that Metallica have been my favourite band since 1983.

anyway, i'm tired of bitching. life is way too short.

Eh i cant see it being effective no offense to Microsoft.

Xbox360 is too branded as a more hardcore system, that plus its price will keep the casual gamer away from it. One of the only reasons a casual gamer would get the Wii is cause of its price. They dont want a $400+ system if they are only going to 'casually' use it.

not true, there is a $300 version of the 360, thats only $50 more than the wii, and if the consumer was smart theyd know theyre getting a way better deal

the price point has nothing to do with it.

remember the playstation 1?

how many "casuals" bought that at £280? i did, as did many others.
in that instance, it was "casual" gamers who thrust gaming into the
mainstream.

that's entirely subjective.

and the core 360 is pretty much worthless (no hdd) to any gamer, casual or not. also doesn't come with a game, controller is wired...

clearly not comparing apples to apples here.
