Buy online and you will get better value. For the USA, there's a LOT of Wii/NGC items available. All brand new, too. There ARE better deals on eBay.

Get a Gc to PS2 pad converter (cheap about £5)
Then you got a pad that works with the game cube and is good for VC (plus it feels better the the classic con)
