To build off of what idgut has already said, a member requires a dark green square for recieving 25 rep points. After five dark green, members begin acquiring light green squares for 50 rep points.
There is also a grayish square you can recieve, which means that the member who repped you did not have enough rep power to change your point total at all.
It should also be noted that repping someone once does increase their reputation score more than one point.
