Gamecube controller not working with GC games

hey all. I have two wii motes and a GC controller that we play three player mario kart wii with and everything works fine, but once I try to load a GC game (tried mario sunshine and paper mario) it gets to the "press start/any button" page and accepts no input from the GC controller. The fact that ot works on Mario Kart leads me to believe there is nothing wrong with the controller itself, so I am confused mightily. Any one heard of this or can point me in the direction of a fix? I've already sent in my wii for the SSBB debacle and I think that was when he GC games quit working, as I believe that yesterday is the first time anyone has tried a GC game. TIA, my first post

Well, I don't have much of an answer, but I think you're GC controller is busted.
Have you tried other GC controllers?

Be sure it's plugged into Port 1 (the one closest to the front).

is it a generic brand controller? or the Nintendo brand?

plugged in to first port, gamestop brand. FWIW, it used to work with GC games, and just stopped recently

Try getting Nintendo brand, they're usually reliable.

If it's gamestop brand (Pelican, I'm assuming) the most likely cause is that it's broken.
