Do you have to use the Nintendo lan adaptor or will any usb to lan convertor work.

No, it only works with the Nintendo Lan Adpater, or if you have a wireless router, you can connect to the Internet with an access point.

As far as i know it also works with some USB-to-LAN adapter

I have a wireless router but i presumed ypou would need a wireless dongle to connect to the Wii ?

Its just that he router is next to the Wii and thought a wired option would be easiest.
