no, from what we've seen so far, the only changes costumes have is the character itself, i dont' think stats or projectory visuals would change

Maybe if you can buy costumes with coins, the costumes you buy not only change your outfit but the look of some of your attacks with no strength variations. (Dr. Mario costume with pills for fireballs)

thats a great idea. We need more uses for coins.But the fact that sakurai made the comment "not used to shop" makes me wonder what are alternative uses other than lottery. I need to double check on that.
